The horse and his boy hope to travel north to Narnia, and encounter numerous adventures and strange characters, all beautifully portrayed by Jennings. The most memorable supporting characters are another escaped child, a tough girl named Aravis, and her talking mare called Hwin. Jennings brings these two adventure seekers to life with his crystal clear narration. Thanks to his skills as a storyteller, the action moves rapidly from one exciting episode to the next. Evocative music plays at the beginning and end of each side of the tape. This presentation will enchant young listeners and encourage them to read the other titles in the series. In this volume, the first of many to come, Tiger goes up against Single-Minded Arhat, Regent of Tibet. The combat is wild-"Titanium doors crumple like tissue paper"-when the two square off for 30 pages of tech-art-enhanced combat. If the final effect is less than thrilling, it may be because the text translation is stiff or that the storytelling conventions of a different culture are unfamiliar to U.S. readers. Amazon.com Sort of funny and fairly bloody, but not bloody enough to be a caricature of violence, Jabba the Hutt: The Art of the Deal is probably one of the more lackluster Dark Horse titles. Bringing together four previously published comics--The Gaar Suppoon Hit, The Hunger of Princess Nampi, The Dynasty Trap, and Betrayal--this collection is an exercise in Jabba worship, a worthy pursuit to be sure but one deserving of more inspired hands. True to its title, the plot line revolves around Jabba's byzantine wheeling and dealing, but the clumsy writing and cartoony art end up making the Hutt look more silly than sinister.
